In every Pokémon game, we’re always waiting for new evolutions, a new form to come out, but this one? WOW. I knew it was Snorlax the moment I heard the snoring, but then… well, meet Mosslax. Apparently sleeping too much can get you covered in moss. That’s not my case (even though I sleep too much), but with all that moss you can’t not love this guy and especially the great bonuses he gives.
In this guide I’ll walk you through everything you need to do to wake up Mosslax in Pokémon Pokopia, step by step. Let’s wake this big guy up.
Quick Tips Before Starting
- Stock up on materials before starting – you’ll need a lot of resources for Utility Poles, habitats, and Shell Lamps. Having wood, iron, and seashells ready saves a lot of running around.
- Place Utility Poles everywhere – every block with a small dark circle is a pole spot. The more you connect, the faster you hit 100 Bloom Points.
- Check speech bubbles – if you’re stuck and don’t see a new quest step, it usually means you haven’t lit enough streetlights or connected enough poles. Light more stuff up and check back.
- Don’t ignore side requests – the Lighthouse, Vending Machine, and Tropical Seaside habitats all add Bloom Points and push the quest forward.
- Befriend Pawmi
early – you’ll need a Generate specialty Pokémon constantly throughout this quest. Pawmi is the easiest to get from a Breezy Flower Bed habitat.

Prerequisites – Before You Can Reach Mosslax
Before you can even get to Mosslax, you need to take care of a few things first:
- Complete the “Yawn Up a Storm” Important Request in the Withered Wasteland. This is the questline where you find Onix, befriend Slowpoke, and raise the humidity in the area.
- Reach a Great Trainer Rank by filling out your Pokédex. This unlocks the area gates to new regions.
- Once both are done, head through the eastern gate out of Withered Wasteland to reach Bleak Beach.

When you first arrive at Bleak Beach, the whole place is dark and gloomy – no sunlight, no power, nothing. Follow Professor Tangrowth into the area and help him build a bridge to the broken-down Pokémon Center. Then start working through the local requests to befriend Meowth
, Trubbish
, Torchic
, and Piplup
– you’ll need all of them before the Mosslax questline kicks in, and after that you will wake up Mosslax
Finding Mosslax
After you’ve completed several requests for the local Pokémon, Trubbish will start complaining about a loud snoring noise coming from the eastern side of the beach. Follow the prompts and head toward the cliffside until you find some cracked rocks. Use your Rock Smash ability to break through, and inside the hidden cave you’ll find Mosslax, a Snorlax that’s been sleeping so long that moss and flowers have grown all over it.

You can’t wake Mosslax up by interacting with it directly. Instead, head back and grab Professor Tangrowth
, bring him to the cave, and he’ll give you the Important Request: “Brighten Things Up!”
Brighten Things Up Full Walkthrough
This is the main quest to wake up Mosslax, and it’s a long one. Your goal is to restore electricity to Bleak Beach and flood the area with light. The game tracks your progress with a Bloom Points system you need to reach 100 Bloom Points to wake Mosslax. You can check your progress anytime by looking at the flowers on Mosslax’s head.
Here’s the full breakdown:
Step 1 – Light Up the Streetlights
Talk to Meowth and he’ll suggest lighting up the streetlights around the harbor. You’ll need a Pokémon with the Generate specialty
Pawmi is the easiest one to get early on (build a Breezy Flower Bed habitat with 4 Seashore Flowers to attract one). Have Pawmi follow you around and power up streetlights as you go.

After lighting enough streetlights, go back to Mosslax’s cave. You’ll see a flower bloom on its head progress!
Step 2 – Build the Resort Meal Prep Habitat
Talk to Torchic and he’ll ask you to build a Resort Meal Prep habitat. You’ll need to place these items near a large palm tree:
- A seat/small stool

- Plated food (a Leppa Berry on a plate works)

- A campfire

Then have a Pokémon with the Burn specialty (like Torchic) light the campfire.

Step 3 – Meet Peakychu
After checking in with Professor Tangrowth, you’ll discover that someone has washed up on a small island nearby. Head over and meet Peakychu a pale Pikachu variant that can’t generate electricity on its own. Peakychu will make its way to Mosslax’s cave.

Talk to Peakychu in the cave and it will give you the recipe for a Shell Lamp
. Craft it using a Seashell
and Sea Glass Fragments
(both found around the beach), place it on the cave wall, and power it up with your Generate Pokémon. You can craft and place multiple Shell Lamps around the cave for extra Bloom Points.
Step 4 – Learn About Utility Poles and Generators
Peakychu will lead you to the windmill on the coast. This is where the game introduces you to the power grid system. You’ll learn how to place Utility Poles on the blocks with small circles on them, connecting power sources to streetlights and buildings.
The recipe for Utility Poles can be found in a golden Pokéball near the furnace on the southwest side of the map.
Step 5 – Connect the Three Power Sources
This is the big city-planning phase. You need to connect three generators to the central Charging Station (the large building in the middle of town) using Utility Poles:
- The Windmill – located on the coastal cliff south of Mosslax’s cave. Connect poles from here to the Charging Station.
- The Waterwheel
– found east of Mosslax’s cave. You may need to break rocks or redirect water flow to get the wheel spinning, then connect it with poles. - The Furnace – located on the southwest shoreline. Talk to Torchic and follow him there. Throw in unwanted items or logs (around 30+) to fuel it, then connect it to the grid with poles.

While connecting the grid, also complete these side requests that pop up along the way:
- Trubbish will lead you to the Lighthouse – connect Utility Poles from a power source all the way up to power the floodlights at the top.
- Mareep wants an Overgrowth Vending Machine habitat – use Leafage to grow yellow grass next to a vending machine and connect a Utility Pole to power it.
- Piplup wants a Tropical Seaside habitat – find the palm tree next to the ocean and place four bushes next to it.
Step 6 – Power Up the Charging Station
The Charging Station has five light bulbs on it and two connection nodes on either side. You need all three generators (windmill, waterwheel, furnace) connected to it via Utility Poles. When all five bulbs are glowing, the station is fully powered.

Pro tip: Look for every block on the ground with a small dark circle – those are ideal spots for Utility Poles. Placing poles everywhere you can helps you reach 100 Bloom Points faster.
Waking Mosslax Up
Once the Charging Station is fully powered, talk to Peakychu. It will step onto the platform and absorb the electricity, then unleash a massive Flash ability that lights up the entire town.
This triggers an epic cutscene – Raikou appears on the cliff above and calls down a lightning strike that destroys the cave roof and floods Mosslax with light. That jolt finally wakes the big guy up.

Talk to Mosslax to complete the request. He’ll become a permanent resident on your island, and after about one in-game day he’ll unlock his Eat specialty – one of the most useful abilities in the entire game.
I’ll be covering Mosslax’s Eat specialty and all the food buffs in a separate guide – stay tuned for that one.
